Murder victim; friend of Nicole Brown Simpson
Profile
Ronald Lyle Goldman was born on July 2, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. His parents divorced in 1974, after which he and his younger sister Kim were raised primarily by their father, Fred Goldman. The family settled in Buffalo Grove, a suburb north of Chicago, where Ron attended Twin Groves Junior High and Adlai Stevenson High School, graduating in 1986 [1].
In high school, Goldman was known as a kind and athletic young man who played soccer and tennis. He was committed to health and fitness, regularly hitting the gym and avoiding alcohol. After briefly attending Illinois State University, he moved to California in the late 1980s, drawn by the promise of warmer weather and bigger opportunities [2]
Goldman harbored entrepreneurial dreams of one day opening his own restaurant, which he envisioned naming after the ankh, the Egyptian symbol of eternal life — a symbol he had tattooed on his shoulder [1]. His employers at Mezzaluna noted that he had the ideal temperament for the hospitality business: personable, energetic, and well-liked by both coworkers and customers. He even appeared on the dating show "Studs" in 1992. His sister Kim later described him as deeply protective of those he loved, while his father Fred said simply, "The pain is always there, the loss is always there. It never goes away" [3].
On the evening of June 12, 1994, Goldman volunteered to return a pair of eyeglasses that Nicole Brown Simpson's mother had left at the restaurant. He arrived at Nicole's condominium on South Bundy Drive sometime after 10 p.m. and was stabbed multiple times, apparently interrupting the attack on Nicole [2]. He was 25 years old. Goldman's death, alongside Nicole's, led to the most watched criminal trial in American history. Though O.J. Simpson was acquitted in 1995, a civil jury found him liable for Goldman's wrongful death in 1997 and ordered $33.5 million in damages [3].
