Kareem Badawi was a promising young man with a bright future ahead of him. Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Kareem was known for his infectious smile and kind-hearted nature. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend, cherished by those who knew him. As a student at the University of Alabama, Kareem was pursuing his dreams with dedication and enthusiasm. He was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, where he forged lifelong friendships and contributed to the community with his leadership and charisma. His peers admired him for his ability to balance his academic responsibilities with his social commitments, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Kareem's passion for learning and his commitment to his studies were evident in his academic pursuits. He was determined to make a positive impact in the world, driven by a desire to succeed and make his family proud. His time at the university was marked by personal growth and the development of a strong network of friends and mentors who supported him in his journey.
Outside of his academic life, Kareem enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, often returning home to Baton Rouge to be with his loved ones. Kareem's father, Belal, often expressed his pride in his son's accomplishments and the man he was becoming.
Tragically, Kareem's life was cut short in the New Year's Day 2025 attack in New Orleans. His untimely death left a void in the hearts of his family and friends, who continue to remember him for the joy and positivity he brought into their lives. University of Alabama President Stuart Bell extended condolences to the Badawi family, acknowledging the profound loss felt by the university community.
